Welcome to our Parish Council Meeting
Parish Council Purpose: The Council is the structural group of the parish community in which each member prayerfully reflects on the needs of the community, deliberates openly and carefully to reach a consensus regarding parish goals and priorities, and shares in making and implementing decisions which will lead the parish to a more deeply believing Christian community. The Council provides the leadership and develops the opportunities for the spiritual growth of the community of faith through worship, education, and social ministry.
Parish Council Schedule: The Council normally meets on the first Wednesday of each month. There is no meeting in July or December. The meeting in August is usually a “retreat” at which council members receive orientation.
Conduct of Meetings: Parish Council Meetings are governed by Robert’s Rules of Order and the Council’s By-Laws and Constitution. The Chair is responsible for facilitating the meeting, maintaining order, and assuring the agenda is adhered to. Parishioners wishing to address Council must call the Council Chair and request to be put on the agenda at least two weeks prior to the scheduled meeting. Visitors to meetings should be seated apart from Council members. Visitors who wish to address the Council, but are not on the agenda may request permission from the Chair prior to the start of the meeting. The Chair will determine whether the matter is urgent enough to justify a change to the agenda. Visitors may not interrupt the meeting. With the consent of the membership, Council members may submit additional items for the agenda at the start of the meeting. |
