Parish Pastoral Council Meeting

January 9, 2008

Linda Deptola called the Parish Pastoral Council meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. on January 9, 2008 in the Church Social Hall.  Jim Lee led the group in prayer.

In Attendance:

 Council Members:   Linda Deptola, Jim Novotny, Hilarie Hicks, Jim Lee, , Mary Ann Cronin, Bill Strasburg,  Joe Shabbott, and Beverly Sabourin-Moore

 Ex-Officio Members:  Father Jim Cowles, Arnold Nye

 Guests:  None

 Absent: 

 Council Members Excused:  Vicky Shabbott and Al Vela,

 Council Members Not Excused:  None

 Approval of Minutes:

No minutes were taken during the December Parish Council social meeting. 

Committee Reports:  Small Christian Communities and Befrienders.

 Unfinished Business:  Jim Lee provided update on the Planning Committee’s focus groups’ progress.  He stated he would like more parish involvement.  Overall, feedback is favorable on the performance of the architect.

New Business:   Jim Novotny discussed the requirement to convene a committee to conduct Parish Council elections.  The committee must be convened 4 months prior to the election. Jim Novotny will chair the committee with Jim Lee and Arnold Nye joining him providing representation for the 3 masses.  The election will be held the last Sunday in April.  4 candidates are required to fill 2 positions (Jim Lee and Linda Deptola).  Jim Lee motioned and Beverly Sabourin-Moore seconds the motion to move forward with election preparation.

Soup with love starts 1^st Friday after Ash Wednesday (February 6, 2008).  Beverly Sabourin-Moore appealed for help, soup, and bread.  Soup with love hours are 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Friday during Lent.

Other Business Items from Council Members: Mary Ann Cronin gave an update on the welcoming committee.  The Parish Council is sponsoring the first of 3 socials to welcome new parishioners January 20, 2008 at 12:00 p.m.  There will be another social in May and one in October this year.

Arnold Nye requests $500.00 advance as a loan towards the goal for the Small Christian Communities Relay for Life team.  Motioned made by Jim Lee and Linda Deptola second. 

Arnold Nye submitted a report for the Small Christian Communities.  See attached.  Mary Ann Cronin added that she participates in a Scripture study group (15 people) that will possibly form as a separate Small Christian Community.

Mary Ann Cronin reported that Roxanne Hefron will chair the Befriender Committee and she will attend coordinator training.  The Diocesan will meet on January 12 to plan coordinator training.

 Pastor Comments:  Father Jim stated that the old rectory porch could be used as a conference room for 10 and could be a potential meeting place. 

Terry Stone is our Youth Minister in training.  Training is ongoing but she has not been commissioned.  February 3, 2008 is planned for commissioning.

January 22, 2008 is the Prayer for Christian unity service at 7:00 p.m.  Try to be present for this prayer service.

Father Jim reiterated pleasure with the performance of the architect.

Announcements:  The next Parish Council meeting will be on February 13, 2008. 

Closing Prayer: The meeting closed with a prayer given by Linda Deptola.
