Planning Committee Meeting

Minutes 11/14/07
 


Present:  Paul Fitzpatrick, Larry Tewey, Fr Jim, Cheryl Davis, Chuck & Mary Lou Villa, Charlie & Mary Alice Woerner, Jim Wezensky, John Wynne, Debbie Knarr, Nadine McGrady, Jim Lee

Jim Lee welcomed and thanked everyone for attending the meeting.

Jim led the team in an opening prayer.
 

Jim asked if everyone received the corrected draft minutes from Oct 24th 2007.  He thanked Cheryl Davis for identifying the incorrect dates and asked if there were any other corrections or changes that needed to be made.  A motion was made by Jim Wezensky to approve the minutes. John Wynne seconded the motion.  The minutes were approved.

Unfinished Business: 
       1)  - Update status from Building and Master Plan sub-committee.      Larry Tewey

 
Larry reported that he spoke with Mr. Harris of Wm. Henry Harris & Associates, Inc. regarding his request to obtain copies of the property and construction drawings of the buildings.  He indicated that Mr. Harris had received the requested drawings.  He also stated that Mr. Harris would like us to identify groups of individuals to participate in focus group sessions.  Mr. Harris will be here on Friday Nov 16th, 2007 at 1:00 PM to discuss the role of these focus groups.  All committee members are welcome and invited to attend if possible.

The committee recommendations are as follows:
 
Since the number of groups or people per group had not been specified, Jim Lee suggested that the committee start with 4-5 groups and 4-5 people per group.  Fr. Jim suggested that a good cross representation of the parish be used for each group.  Cheryl Davis suggested choosing the most knowledgeable based on what we have done.  Paul Fitzpatrick suggested asking people to assist with the effort after forming groups.
 
The focus groups should reflect the needs and wants of the parish.  Those needs and wants are well represented in the stated responses received to the “We Walk By Faith” survey and the “Vision Statement”.

Criteria for making up each group:
 
How involved do you want to be in the process?  Recommended Individuals would be group leaders
 
How long of a commitment will this require?  Initial meeting time ( 7:00 - 8:30 PM ) at the church

Fr. Jim shared information with the committee regarding the purchase of property to be used as a new rectory.  He read a statement prepared and delivered by Finance Council representative Ms. Pat Snyder at the Nov 7th, 2007 Parish Council meeting.  The original old rectory currently occupied by tenants on a month-to-month lease will be listed for sale.  He also indicated that the current rectory could be used for meetings.

 Note:  I believe that the meeting with Mr. Harris Friday afternoon was very productive.  He was very impressed with the work our team has done.  He individually asked each attending member to tell him there name and to identify what there prime concerns were.  Short statements defining each focus group need to be prepared and an announcement made inviting parishioner participation.  Let me know if you are willing to help prepare a short statement for any of the focus groups we've identified.
