SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION

Children must be registered and attend religious education classes for at least one year prior to preparation for any Sacrament other than infant Baptism. (Infant Baptism is applicable for children birth through first grade.)

[While religious education class attendance is a pre-requisite for Sacrament preparation, it in no way eliminates the need for specialized instruction.]

Parents are to be involved in the Sacramental preparation of each of their children. Parents have the primary responsibility for their child's preparation. However, we will support and assist all parents, in any way they need, in order to adequately fulfill the responsibility as primary educators in the ways of our faith. Parents of eligible, older children who wish to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Eucharist, and First Penance/Reconciliation need to contact the Religious Education office for preparation.

Attendance is very important for ALL Sacrament preparation classes. In case of illness or unavoidable conflicts-contact your Catechist for make-up "work."

Sacramental Preparation, by Diocesan guidelines, is conducted in the students’ individual parish, whether or not they attend parochial school. The sacrament celebrations are a part of the parish, just as each student is a part of Christ’s family.

FIRST COMMUNION AND RECONCILIATION

The Sacrament of Penance/Reconciliation celebrates and continues Christ's work of forgiving sins and reconciling believers. First Penance preparation begins in the second grade. Parents/Guardians determine if their child is ready to begin preparation. The Pastor will determine if the child is prepared for the Sacrament.

Holy Eucharist preparation is conducted in the second grade after having participated in Religious education classes or attending a Catholic school. Parents/Guardians determine if their child is ready to begin preparation.

Classes start in September and continue to May. All classes must be attended on a regular, consistent basis and all the work must be completed.
