CONFIRMATION
Confirmation is the Sacrament that "seals" our
Baptismal initiation. It concludes our full communion into the Catholic Faith.
Those who receive Confirmation receive the grace responsibly to witness to
Christ by word and deed to spread and defend the faith. It does not, however,
mean the end of religious education, it is the beginning of our lifetime
education. Confirmation is a two-year process beginning in the tenth grade or
later.
FIRST YEAR CONFIRMATION PREPARATION :
Participation in regular religious education classes (in
parish or Catholic school).
Choose a sponsor using the guidelines: Candidates must
choose a sponsor by the beginning of their second year. A sponsor must be over
18 years of age, Confirmed, and an active member of St. Therese or a
neighboring parish. Sponsors must be available to come to designated classes
with their candidates. According to canon law, A PARENT MAY NOT BE THE
SPONSOR FOR HIS/HER OWN CHILD.
Choose a ministry to continue throughout both years.
MINISTRY GUIDELINES :
Ministry (in God's service) is sharing our talents with
others in an organized, ongoing fashion. Usually it is through a church group;
however, other organizations also give us opportunities to minister. For
example: tutoring programs at school and/or libraries, brownies or cub scouts
needing leaders, hospital aides etc.
SECOND YEAR CONFIRMATION PREPARATION:
-
Participation in ALL Confirmation classes.
-
Participation in the Confirmation Retreat.
-
Participation in ministry, written report required.
-
Participation in Confirmation class parish service
project.
-
Letter requesting Confirmation written to the Bishop.
-
The Confirmation schedule is determined by the Bishop.
Parents, Candidates and Sponsors will be notified as information is received.
