THE SECOND PHASE: SPACE NEEDS FOR OFFICES ETC. AND PARKING
We are growing. Yes! To move/change the church structures to accommodate our growing needs of space, safety, parking, is just what we need. We will move forward, Father! We believe in you and the leadership/commitment of the Pastoral Council. You have our support! We are truly excited… **** Same as above. Except for
staffing. Yes! We do need a Young Youth Director to inspire our youth & make
them a part of our church. **** Excellent idea! **** I’m so glad the church is addressing the need for a more quiet, reverent Blessed Sacrament!! The Learning Center definitely is not an adequate or safe meeting place. The need for additional classrooms can be accommodated in the main (church) building if the partitions in the small hall (2 small or 1 large meeting area) and the library and storage room used as classrooms. Therefore older religious education kids from the Learning Center could be relocated back into the main building with the rest of the religious education classes. Building a small chapel will make daily mass more of a community than being surrounded by a sea of empty seats. **** I have no standing presently with “codes compliance” but I was a hospital inspector with the D. C. government and was trained in fire inspection by the NFPA. I have seen too many deaths from fire to not say something again. **** We have two parking lots already. If people would use both lots plus the street we would not need another lot. Take a look at the church by the court buildings. They have one lot and the street! I believe they also have more parishioners than we do and fewer services and they seem to do all right. Why do we need more places to park anyway? **** Again we agree these improvements have been needed. **** For hundreds of years we have had a separate confessional room – booth for a confessional. Why is this now a reconciliation room? And only once a month? The church has not felt this was adequate until lately. **** Is it possible that the existing chapel be enclosed to be a “crying room” so parents with babies and toddlers can participate in the Mass without worry of disturbing the congregation? **** Sounds plausible. **** I’m personally tired of hearing about parking needs – turning the old office space into a small chapel and reconciliation area does sound like good use of the space – Will the Eucharistic Chapel be moved in there? I’d like to see more Eucharistic adoration opportunities at the church. **** The idea of an accessible day chapel is especially appealing to me. Many times I pass the church during the working day and have stopped in the parking lot to just sit and contemplate my personal thoughts with the Lord’s house in view. I t would be very helpful to just slip into a quiet chapel and do the same! **** Good idea. Expand church itself (diagram not copied) extend back of additional church seating. **** Two questions: Why is a new “day chapel” required? Unless it is being considered to reduce the utility costs I see no need for this. Whole – heartedly support reconfiguring the tabernacle area and constructing a reconciliation room. Before constructing a new building for office space, why not consider refurbishing or remodeling one of the existing buildings? Would like to see a good cost –tradeoff analysis of new vs. remodeling. **** Altar servers – we “must” go back to a scheduled list of altar servers like we have for Eucharistic Ministers and readers. At the present time we are excluding young Catholic kids who are not serving. **** I am fine with replacing the learning center with new office space, as long as the process is done thoughtfully and as frugally as possible. Demographic research with projections for future membership growth would go long way in convincing me to help financially. **** Parking is set by building code. Design of office space should be led by priest, office staff, and building committee as major inputs. Worship space should be open to all for inputs. In major renovations you must be careful not to trash “memorials” provided by persons in the original construction.
Original plan had a vesting room on right entrance. Also had an MRE office in classroom area. To respond to the “Fat-Head” of a new MRE the vesting was moved so she could have an office commensurate with her importance! This greatly jeopardized “safety” (fire particularly) by cutting off one emergency exit through the sacristy, into parish hall, with exit then possible through four door options. Major safety issue still resides!
